Naz Smyth: 13 Lessons to Teach Your Child About Digital Photography

Today while sorting through some old boxes I found a photo album filled with the first ever photos that I took as a young budding photographer. I was around nine years old when I first started using our family’s film point and shoot camera and I still remember my Dad’s ‘training’ on how to use it. Basically it consisted of this advice: ‘Don’t take too many shots’ Remember, this was back in the day of film photography where film and processing costs made my Dad’s advice pretty sound. Naz Smyth: History of Photography

Photography is the science, art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. The image depicts the view from an upstairs window at Niépce's estate, Le Gras, in the Burgundy [...]

It's never been about the gear. It's always been about seeing something, knowing how you want it to look, and making it so. Making it so is the easy part; seeing it in the first place is what makes a photographer. Powers of observation are everything. Snapping a camera is trivial. Photography and painting are the same. Each renders imagination in tangible form. The difference [...]
